Tailpiece – Lady Godiva
“I hope you are coming to our Coronation pageant at any rate,” said the vicar to an old reprobate who never went to church. “It’s going to be a grand show. We shall have Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, Lady Godiva, and all the rest.”
“Oh,” said the parishioner, “and who’s Lady Godiva? Never heard of her.”
“Well,” said the vicar, blushing a little, “she is the lady who rode through the streets pf Coventry quite unclothed and on a pure white horse.”
“Well,” said the old man, hesitating, “maybe I’ll come. It’s a long time since I saw a pure white horse.”
