Tailpiece
The professional man who had, at some sacrifice, sent his boy to a public school, was told by the lad when he came home on vacation that he had made a good friend at school who lived only ten miles away, and might he ask him to supper some night? The father, of course, readily agreed, and presently the boy came, driving up in a Rolls Royce, complete with chauffeur.
After an evening pleasantly spent, the chauffeur returned and away the young guest went. Afterwards the father said to his son: “He is certainly a very nice boy but I doubt if you ought to see much of him.”
“Why on earth not?” said the boy, astonished, “he’s my best friend!”
“Yes” said the father, “but you know we haven’t a great deal of money—it has been rather a struggle to send you to this school — and we can afford to mix with people who drive about in Rolls Royces.”
“Oh, that ” said the boy. “why they’ve got two Rolls Royces.”Good gracious!” said the father
“Yes, and a hearse.”
