Seventeen-year-old Philip Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Jones, of 27, Wombwell Avenue, Wath, is’ one of the team of Royal Marines musicians taking part in, the Edinburgh Tattoo.

Philip, a junior bugler and drummer in the Royal Marines band, joined the Service at the age of 15 and underwent his early training at the Royal Marines School of Music at Deal. He is now stationed at Plymouth.

Before joining up he was a member of Mexborough Military Band.

Mrs. Jones told a “South ‘Yorkshire Times” reporter this week that her son had always been interested in music and held three’ pianoforte certificates. He first became a trumpet enthusiast when he visited. Blackpool on holiday with his parents and heard Eddie Calvert play for the first time. He persuaded his father to buy him a trumpet and so began a devotion to this form of music which has led to a 12-year engagement in the Royal Marines.

Philip is an old boy of Wath Park Road Modern School.
