The Bravery of a Wath Man at Bournemouth.

Memorial to be Erected

The conspicuous bravery of the young William Waddington, of Wath-upon-Dearne, who was drowned whilst saving the life of a woman Bournemouth on October 2nd is to be commemorated by a memorial. Last night a meeting was held in the Mechanics’ Institute to decide what form the memorial should take.

The Vicar, the Rev. H. M. Ward, occupied the chair. Mr. Irving Woodhouse, the secretary, said the suggestion of a memorial emanated from the Young Men’s Bible Class, of which the deceased a member but as the opinion had been in that the general public in Wath wished to join in recognising the gallant act of the young man he had been advised to call that, meeting.

The Vicar, Mr. D.M. Nicholson, and several other gentlemen in Wath signified their willingness to help forward the movement, but the ultimate form of the memorial was left in abeyance until the committee knew what the result of their efforts would be.

Waddington’s body has not yet been recovered.
