The Season of Remembrance
At Manvers Main.
Officials, workmen, pensioners and relatives of the fallen gathered at the Manvers Main Collieries’ memorial on Friday for the silence. A brief service was conducted by Mr. J. Coakes, Capt. T. J. L. Thomson read the Lesson, “Let us now praise famous men” (Ecclesimiticus 44, 1-14), and Mr. J. Midgley (a pensioner read an appropriate message
the hymns cause Oh God our help” “How bright these glorious spirit shine” and “The Resurrection Morning” Were Sung.
Mr A.T.Thomson (Managing Director) laid on the Memorial a Poppy Wreath and many floral tributes were placed there during the Morning. Councillor W Popplewell, J.P., (Chairman of the Wath on Dearne Urban District Council) pronounced the Benediction, and the National Anthem was sung.
