Thorncliffe Well On Top
Thorncliffe 163 Wath 41
Thorncliffe, at home on Saturday to Wath, although they lacked the services of Arnold Mellor, Eric Earnshaw, and I. Baxter, three of last season’s stalwarts, brought off a convincing win. Fresh comers to the Thorncliffe team, were E. Nutbrown, a fast bowler who last season played for Shiregreen and Sheffield United; M. Blackmore, a bowler from the Ecclesfield district; H. Moore an all-rounder, who for a number of years, assisted Barnes Green; Ronnie Housman, a dependable batsman who has previously played for Thorncliffe; and Jack Baxter, who for years has done valuable work for Whitley Hall.
Thorncliffe made 163 (Ronnie Houson 50, H. Moore 25, E. Fletcher 22, W. Aynsley 16, J. Baxter 14, and H. Windle 12).
For Wath, W. Rippon took 8 for 32. Wath’s first wickets fell at 17 and their second at 27 and later a collapse set in and the last 7 wickets fell for 14 runs., the innings closing at 41 runs (R. Cutts 10, S. Ellis 10). Blackmore and Nutbrown bowled unchanged, taking 5 for 15 and 4 for 20 respectively.
