Two Killed – 2 Hurt in Evening Crash
A West Melton man is still critically ill in Mexborough Montagu Hospital following a death crash in which his wife and a Mexborough man were killed. Mr. Jack Smith (23), merchant seaman, of 69, Maple Road, Mexborough, was killed outright in the crash late on Tuesday, when the car in which he was travelling was involved in collision with an articulated lorry at Wath Road, Brampton.
All attempts to save Mrs. Doris Farr (26) of 9, Elliotts Close, West Melton, failed, and she died the following morning. Her unborn baby – which was expected this weekend – could not be saved
Cut From Wreckage
The driver of the car, Mrs. Farr’s husband, Michael (25), was cut from the wreckage by fireman. He is suffering from multiple chest and skull injuries.
A fourth passenger, Mrs. Farr’s sister, Maureen Lidster (23) of 70, Oakley Avenue, West Melton, who had become engaged to Mr. Smith this weekend, is in a fair condition, but is still detained in hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Farr who had a six-years-old daughter Dawn, had been married for eight years.
Jack, who met Maureen only eight months ago, had only arrived home on leave
