Tomorrow Mr Herbert Beevers of 7 William St, Wath will have completed 55 year’s service to the day at the Wath Main colliery.

He started in 1882. He began as a door trapper, but for the last 30 years has been among the horses and for the last two has been head horsekeeper.

The ponies, of which he has charge are well-groomed and without a scratch, and they get many a titbit from Mr Beevers and his assistants.

Mr Beevers is going into retirement, which he has earned well, with  the good wishes of staff and workmen at the Colliery, which he has so long  and  faithfully served, will go with him.
