Wath Fail in Game Bid For Runs

Wath 184  Thorncliffe  227 for 8 dec

Thurcroft just beat Wath Athletic at Wath in the last over on Saturday.  They hit 227 for 8 declared in two hours 35 minutes.  L. Eames, who batted very patiently, found a more forceful partner in E. Boot and 51 runs were added for the sixth wicket before Fieldsend clean bowled Eames for 63.  Boot was stumped for 30 at 159. J. Hudson 21 not out  and R. Parkin (40 not out) improved the game by adding 60 runs in an unbroken eighth wicket stand.

Wath batsmen were out for runs, and their inclination to take a risk helped Orridge and Edwards, who were well supported in the field.  R. Cutts (11) and D. Brookes (24) put on 42 for the first wicket.  W. Rippon played a determined innings and nearly saved the game with a sound 58 not out. H. Clarke (24) helped to take the total to 184.  Orridge took 5 for 78 and Edwards 4 for 65.
