Wath 3, Boston 2

Wadi narrowly escaped defeat on their own ground on Saturday-

After leading for three quarters of the game they allowed Boston to get the upper hand and it was only in the last seven minutes that Wath forced a win. Wath played good football but the forwards finished weekly.

After 90 minutes Frank MOORE gave them the lead. The successful movement started with Hargreaves and Skeels, and the latter’ centre was fumbled by Street. Bratley and Wheatley held the Boston forwards.

Ten minutes after the interval Boston got level through Sam JENKINSON who scored after a corner kick by Stephenson. Both teams brightened up but Wath had by far the better of the play. Street alone kept them out. Then the unexpected happened. EARLE broke away, Bratley leaving him unmarked, and with surprising ease gave Boston the load after 22 minutes of the second half.

Wath led off again at a fast pace and play was thrilling. Boston defended desperately and Wath could not score till DAWBER found a way. Wath forced a corner kick and from Skeet’s cross Dawber ran in to head the ball into the goal. A few minutes before the end Frank MOORE gave Wath the victory.

Wath deserved it. They played pretty football and wore generally attacking. Under pressure Blakey and Goodacre were unsteady but Street gave a fine display in goal. Akinlen was again at centre-forward but was not at his best and missed chances. Hargreaves and Skeels made the most, effective wing on the field. Hargreaves appears to have found his old ‘form again. Frank Moore was at great worker and got ample assistance from Dawber. Bedford and Dennis were prominent,. Wheatley was not so strong as usual but Bratley made only one mistake. Whittaker could not be blamed for letting Boston through.
