For the visitors Hukin and J Cooper were the outstanding batsmen, but the tail end wagged very feebly against the bowling of Hargreaves and Green, the former taking four for 37 and Green four for 30.
The Athletic had four wickets down for 56 runs, but in the meantime J Roberts had retired hurt. Then runs came apace, but nine wickets were down for 98. Roberts resumed his innings and exciting play followed. Burke and Roberts batting cautiously, the former hitting out at loose deliveries until the Athletic were within nine runs of victory, when, attempting a fourth run, Burke was run out by a smart bit of fielding.
