Seven for Eric Peploe
Wath Athletic 87 for 5 Brodsworth 86
With Athletic, experienced little difficulty in gaining a five wickets victory over Brodsworth at Wath. Eric Peploe (picture) and G. Ellis bowled unchanged in dismissing Brodsworth for 86, the former taking 7 for 47 in 13 avers and Ellis 3 for 39. The Brodsworth batting was generally steady, but at no time did they appear likely completely to master the bowling
C. Wheeldon showed some enterprise in scoring 30 of the first 57 runs and was fourth out, but the middle batsmen failed and the next four wickets fell for six runs.
Sid Ellis again laid a good foundation with a sound innings of 32 in Wath’s reply. With their score at 49 for 3 rain appeared imminent, but G. Howarth and I. Gawthrop (17) speeded up the scoring and the winning run came as rain began fall. Howarth bit two sixes in his 19 not out. Wath closing at 87 for 5.
