Wath Fire-Fighting
Council To Purchase New Engine
Wath District Council do not intend to share the expense new fire engine with anyone. They are to go ahead with a scheme for providing a new engine to serve the Wath district.
Mr. P. It, Nicholson, at last night’s meeting, urged that they should first at approach the Dearne and Swinton Urban authorities asking if they would be prepared to enter into arrangements all of the district in connection with the installation of firefighting service.
He said was absurd that small the urban authority like Wath should spend a lot of money on a fire engine when boroughs with 50,000 population only had engines of the same size.
Mr. M. R. Swift said that Dearne Council was to consider the purchase of a new engine according to reports in the Press, and Mr. O. Varney said the they had approached two authorities on previous occasions.
Mr. Nicholson’s amendment that the matter be deferred for further consideration was lost.
The Council confirmed a general rate for the ensuing half-year of 10s 6d in the £.
