Wath Girl is Reported Missing
No news of the whereabouts of their , 17-year old daughter, Jeanette, to relieve the worry being experienced by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holmes, of Crowley Drive, Wath, has yet been received.
Jeanette was employed at a Mexborough pork butcher’s shop. Described as a “quiet, stay-at-home girl, Jeanette often stayed occasional nights with her widowed grandmother, who lives at Swinton. so no question was raised when she told her parents she was going to stay with her grandmother on Saturday night. However Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, who have two other daughters, became worried when she did not return home on the Sunday but continued to believe she was staying at Swinton until they received a letter. They then informed the police that Jeanette was missing.
Mr. Robert Holmes (49), the girl’s father, travelled to Doncaster early in the week where Jeanette’s boy-friend had been lodging. He heard that the couple had travelled to London.
Verification came with a letter, bearing a Doncaster postmark, which arrived at Crowley Drive on Monday morning, which stated, “Dear Mum, I am going to get a new job. Don’t worry about me.” Nothing more has been heard since.
Police are making a widespread search in London for the missing girl.
Mrs. Holmes said to a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter, “I wish she’d come back, then we could , talk things over and come to some arrangement.”
Jeanette gave in her notice at Messrs. Green’s shop in High street, Mexborough, without her parents’ knowledge.
Jeanette is one of three daughters. The eldest is Margaret (24), a teacher and the youngest Linda (4). who has continually asked for Jeanette during the past few days.
