Wath Golden Wedding
There is a Wath man who has lived for 73 years in the same street., Fifty years ago to-morrow he married and he and his wife have never left their little cottage for a day.
They are Mr.and Mrs. Fred Shaw, of 60. Chapel Street. Wath who were married at the Talbot Lane Church, Rotherham. On May 21st, 1888. On Sunday there will be a family reunion to celebrate the Golden wedding.
Mr Shaw secured work in the lamp house at Manvers Main number two pit in 1875 and in 1882 he took up a similar job at Wath Main, where he stayed until 1893, when he went to Manvers Main and then New Stubbin. About 1900 he returned to Wath Main and was landman until his retirement at the age of 69.
Mr Shaw, whose maiden name was poorly, was a Rawmarsh girl. Mr Shaw is 73 and Mrs Shaw 75. They have had a family of two sons and four daughters, but one son died in January.
Throughout their lives the old couple have been associated with the Trinity Methodist Church, where Mrs Shaw attended Sunday school until she was 26
