Wath Housing Chairman
Couc. W. Rawlinson Resigns His Seat
Coun. W. Rawlinson. a member of Wath Urban Council since April 1946. and chairman of the Council’s Housing Committee, has tendered his resignation and it will be formally reported to the Council at their November meeting next Tuesday evening.
Coun. Rawlinson would have been normally due to retire a year next April. His is one of three councillors representing the Wharncliffe Ward, the other two being P. R. Baker, Chairman of the Council, and County Coun. Horace Cutts, Vice-chairman. His resignation will cause a by-election and it is likely that nominations will have to be made by the middle of November and, If a contest takes place, that the election date will probably be the first Saturday in December.
Coun. Rawlinson, who is employed at Wath Main Colliery, and is delegate to the colliery branch of the N.U.M., was secretary of Wan Labour Party from 1927 to 1933.
He told a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter this week that he had not resigned from the Labour Party.
