A Prosperous Institute.
Mr. A. J. Thompson, president of the Wath Mechanics’ Institute, presided at the 74th annual meeting of this institution held last night.
The chairman, who spoke of the excellent work which the institution was doing, said it was one of a few similar institutes still left in the West Riding.
Mr. Palframan, the secretary, presented his annual report. The institute had purchased 40 books during the year and they took 69 newspapers, and periodicals.
Mr. Lumb (the treasurer) said the income for the year was £782 1s. 11d., and there was a credit balance of £440 19s. 1d.
Votes of thanks were recorded to the secretary and the treasurer, and Mr. W. Hallot spoke in high terms of the work done by the chairman and president during his connection with the institution. The Vicar (the Rev. S. G. Gunnery) seconded the votes of thanks.
