A Valuable Achievement Celebrated

Extensions to the Wath upon Dearne waterworks were officially opened on Monday by Mr A Bramham, chairman of the Urban District Council, at the Pumping Station. The extensions consists of an additional borehole, a new and powerful pumping plant, two small pumps, engine house, extensions to pumping station, water tower, sand filters and 4 miles of new mains.

The borehole is 20 inches in diameter, and 162 feet deep, with a 20 inch steel lining tube inserted to a depth of 100 feet.

The new pumping plant is of the rotating type with borehole and force pump, and is capable of raising 30,000 gallons of water an hour from a depth of 150 feet from the surface, and forcing the same quantity of water a total height of 510 feet above the surface, including friction to 7500 feet of 8 inch still remain to the reservoirs the steam pressure of 100lbs a square inch.

New Waterworks Extensions

The interior of the new pumping station of the Wath Urban Council, part of their waterworks extension scheme, which is to be officially opened on Monday. The photograph shows a new locative pumping unit in the foreground, capable of raising 30,000 gallons of water per hour from the debts of 155 feet, and forcing it to Wath Wood reservoirs.
