“I only feel 80, if that”!
Says Wath upon Dearne Nonagenarian

A family party celebrated the 90th birthday of Mrs Alice Leek, 169, Doncaster Road Wath on Dearne on Sunday, at the home of her great-niece Mrs M Parrott of Midland Road, Swinton.

Only one of her five children was able to be present on this happy occasion. She was Mrs E Carter (65) Sheffield, for her son Mr E Leek of Deal Kent, the only other member of the family, was unable to attend owing to ill health.

Mrs Leek is one of the oldest people in Wath and is very active. She lives on her own, doing all her own cleaning, washing up and baking.

Mrs Leek is a member of Gore Hill Methodist Church, and on Tuesday at the home of her niece, Mrs K Fox, of Gypsy Green Lane, Wath, Mrs Leek was presented with a gift from the church by Mrs F Bassingdale.

When Mrs Leek was asked her recipe for longevity she replied that it was due to hard work. She remarked: “I only feel 80, if that.”

Mrs Leek was born at once, in Church Street, and married at Wath. She has three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She received cards – flowers, chocolate, and wine from friends and neighbours.
