Marriage: Methley & Gearing

The marriage took place at Brampton Church of Miss Joan A. Methley, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Methley, 3, Oaklea Avenue, West Melton, and Mr. Frederick J. Gearing, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. F. Gearing, 10, St. James’s Crescent, Brixton, London.

Miss Eve Ellis (friend of the bride) sang “Because” during the ceremony.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of figured white satin beaute, and a veil and coronet of orange blossom. She carried red carnations. She was attended by Miss Edna Marsden and Miss Anne Carberry, who wore lavender dresses, with head-dresses to tone, and carried bronze chrysanthemums. Miss Peggy Methley, wearing a dress of pink satin, and carrying bronze chrysanthemums; Miss Mollie Mattock and Miss Beryl Gearing, in dresses of pink satin and carrying muffs, and Miss Patricia Methley, wearing white crepe-de-Chine, and carrying a muff.

Best man was Mr. W. Smith, and groomsmen were Messrs. H. Mattock and E. Clerehugh. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a diamond pendant, and the bride’s gift to the bridegroom a gold signet ring. The honeymoon was spent in London.

Among the gifts was a mahogany cake stand from the nursing friends of the bride at the Municipal General Hospital, Rotherham.
