Wedding – Payling & Swift

Miss Evelyn Payling, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Payling, 149, Summer Lane, Wombwell was married at Wombwell Parish Church on Monday to Mr. Wilfred Swift, youngest son of Councillor and Mrs. Marcus R. Swift of Doncaster Road, Wath-on-Dearne.

The Rector, the Rev. J. S. Leger Blakeney officiated.

The bride, who was given away by her father wore a long gown of blue crepe-de-Chine, trimmed with gold lace.  Her hat and shoes were in tone and she carried a bouquet of pink carnations, white lilac, and fern. There were three attendants Miss Gladys Payling wore brown crepe-de-Chene trimmed with beige lace and carried yellow tulips, and Miss Margaret Crowther of Darnall, Sheffield, was in a pretty dress of floral organdie.

A small attendant, Miss Enid Hudson, was in a long dress of pink crepe-de-Chine, prettily trimmed with small rose buds. The best man was Mr. Clifford Swift, the well-known Wath chemist, and the groomsman Mr. Eric Rodgers. The bride’s mother received the guests in brown crepe-de-Chine, and the mother of the bridegroom wore brown.

Among the guests was the bridegroom’s grandmother, Mrs. Swift of Wath who is in her 84th year.  She wore black silk.

The honeymoon is being spent touring.  The bridegroom is well known in local sporting circles.
