Wedding – Reeves & Whitney

A soldier In the U.S.A. Forces, Pte. Carleton Whitney, of Iowa, has taken as his bride a Brampton Bierlow girl, Pte. Mabel Reeves, A.T.S., younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reeves, of 2 Knollbeck Lane.

The couple were married at Brampton Bierlow Parish Church on Saturday by the Vicar, the Rev. C. L. Suggit. The bridegroom is tall and dark—a typical American. He comes of farming stock settled at Parkersburg, Iowa, and has been in England about twelve months.

The bride joined the A.T.S. nearly a year ago and the romance is the culmination of a meeting while In the Forces. The bride belongs to an old Wombwell family. She is a grand-daughter of the late Mr. Elijah Reeves, who was well known as a musician and associated with most of the musical organisations in Wombwell a matter of 30 years ago.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a lovely gown of ivory lace and satin, the veil falling from a halo of white feathers. She carried an ivory-backed Prayer Book. Bridesmaids were two A.T.S. colleagues, Misses Eileen Clarke and Joan Rees. They wore dresses of floral blue taffeta.

Best man was Mr. Frank Walker, brother-in-law of the bride, and groomsman Mr. Leonard Davis. A souvenir silver horseshoe was presented to the bride by her niece, Beryl Walker.

After a reception -at the home of the bride the couple left for a honeymoon at Buxton. The bride will return to the United States with her husband after the war. Coaches were provided by Messrs. M. Charlesworth and Son, private cars and taxis, 3, York Street, Wombwell (phone Wombwell 208).
