Spring Smiles on Wath, Mexborough Bridal Couple

Miss Hilary Shaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A Shaw of 63, Christchurch Road, West Melton and Mr. Bernard Hobson, only son of Mr. and Mrs. B Hobson 43, Oak Road, Mexborough, who were married at Wath Parish Church, by the Vicar of Wath, the Rev. J. H. Oxer, had a beautiful pre-spring day for their wedding day on Saturday.

The bride, given away by her father, wore ballerina length white lace, simply styled with satin cumberbund falling into back panels. Her shoulder length veil was held in position by a coronet of petals, and she carried deep pink roses, freesia and lilies of the valley.

The chief bridesmaid, Miss Ann Braithwaite, and the bride’s sister, Miss Julie Shaw, wore short dresses of lilac brocade, simply styled with full skirts. The attractive back detail was a large butterfly bow.

Both attendants wore head-dresses of single orchids and carried freesia. The small attendant, Miss Jayne Jones, niece of the bride, wore a short white dress with white nylon fur cape. She wore a circlet of flowers and anemones.

The best man was Mr. Ken Thorpe and the groomsmen were Mr. Norman Carr and Mr. Terry Eyre, all colleagues of the bridegroom.

The bride’s mother’s ensemble was a royal blue two piece worn with lemon and royal blue accessories and the bridegroom’s mother wore a multi-colored suit with grey and white hat and black accessories.

A reception was held at the Church House, Wath, attended by over 100 guests.

The couple left for their honeymoon in London on Sunday morning, when the bride travelled in a fawn coat over a pink fitted dress and black accessories.

From the bride’s colleague at Waterstone Glassworks, and from the groom’s colleagues at “South Yorkshire Times” Printing Company, they received individual gifts.
