Mrs. Mitchell Addresses Lady Electors At Wath.
The campaign of Colonel Mitchell, the official Coalition candidate is highly popular, especially at Wath-upon-Dearne, where he resides, and where during and prior to the war, in unostentatious way, he has “loosened his pocketstrings most liberally.
He was the Mr. Burton of a recent hospital Sunday movement, who gave a cheque approaching three figures to place the movement on a sound footing, and his donations to the local war relief fund have also totalled several hundred pounds.
Last night, in the Victoria Schoolroom, Wath. Mrs. Mitchell spoke on behalf of her husband before a largely-attended meeting of the women electors. Mrs. Mitchell said how pleased she was to see so many ladies there. She asked them to record their vote on Saturday next for the man they thought best fitted to send into Parliament, one who would support Mr. Lloyd George in his Government.
They wanted a strong man to do that, and the official Coalition candidate. Colonel Mitchell, was the one. They must do their best return Mr. Lloyd George and send him to the Peace Conference, he was the man who had kept us from slipping over during the last two years. If they sent the wrong man then “the Lord help England.”
Councillor M. Robson made a rousing speech, and was followed by Miss Maddison and Councillor W. Hallatt. Miss Maddison said £24.000,000,000 was not enough to make Germany pay —(applause)—and in her opinion the Kaiser should be handed over to the women of England.
Mrs. T. Thomson proposed the resolution of confidence in the candidate, and Mrs. Nash seconded.
