Members of the choir of West Melton Congregational church gave a splendid performance of the operetta “Pearl the Fishermaiden” on Wednesday. A good deal of the success of the show was undoubtedly due to the efforts of the producer, Mrs. A. Braithwaite, but all the players put their parts over in flawless style.
Miss E. Lightley was a vivacious and charming Pearl and her singing was excellent. Mr. Herbert Lawton handled the part of Lorenzo very ably. The other leading roles were unerringly played and the chorus and dancers earned a special word of praise.
Mr. Clifford Swift presided over Wednesday evening’s performance and the production was repeated last night, and will be given again this evening. The show was to have been produced last November, but the war caused a postponement. The aim of the effort is to raise funds for a new organ.
In addition to those mentioned the cast included: Mrs. B. Wroe. Mr. M. Cooper, Miss D. Pascal, Mr. Jack Middleton, Mr. H. Pilley, Mr. A. Braithwaite. Alwyn Lindley. Joan Barlow, Mrs. E. Stevens, B. Lawrence, Misses G. Skelton, B. Spence, E. Kirkham. I. Smith. E. and J. Starling. M. Archer, M. Barlow. Mesdames L. Barlow, H. Kirkam. D. Skelton, E. Stevens, and Mess. A. Brown and C. Dauber.
Music was provided by Mr. E. Stanger and Mr. H. Cooper. The scenery was painted and designed by Mrs Stanger and Mr. H. Lawton. Miss D. Pascall trained the dancers.
