Young Wathonian Wins Festival Cup
Mr. Terence Ladlow (21), of Wath, who is at Trent Park Training College, has won the silver trophy awarded by the Elough and District Arts Festival for his film “The Alien” which has been adjudged as the best black and white film in the Festival.
Mr. Ladlow, who is to join the staff of Brampton Junior School in September, produced the film in London last year.
In a letter to the “South Yorkshire Times” this week Terry says arrangements for him by the Norwegian Embassy to spend two weeks in Stavanger, Norway, where he will make a colour film of the life of a Norwegian family On the Lyse Fjord.
A former student at Mexborough Technical School and Wath Grammar School, Mr. Ladlow has gained much experience during the past years and has been helped by many well-known people. He has just been to the Associated British Pathe Studios at Borehamwood, Elstree, where he met American film star Richard Denning, who was engaged on a new independent television series. “Flying Doctor.”
He has also received an invitation from Mr. Sidney Box to visit the Pinewood Studios this month.
Mr. Ladlow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ladlow, of 27, Church Street, Wath, made his first film while he was student-teaching at Brampton Junior School. a film which has since been shown to the Child Development Section of the Institute of Education at London University and to many Film Societies.
Fame also came to Mr. Ladlow in connection with his compositions of popular music in 1956.
He was church organist at Kilnhurst Church for some time. He has taken 11 Royal Schools of Music examinations and will take his letters after College.
