Twice Chairman of Wath Urban Council

The death occurred at Cross House, Wath, yesterday, of Councillor Arthur Bramham at the age of 71.

Mr. Bramham, who was one of the members of the central ward Wath Council, was a self-made man, formerly employed in the works of Messrs. Charles Stanley and Sons.

He learned plumbing and eventually became master plumber, assisted in his business by his son.

The eldest son was a member of Thurnscoe Urban District Council.

During the 1926 coal stoppage Mr Bramham advanced money to local branch of the Y.M.A. without interest, and to mark their appreciation on repayment of the loan the Committee of the Y.M.A. presented him with a pen and pencil writing set.

He was native of Wath and twice held the chairmanship of the Council, of which had been a member since 1913. He also served on Wath Joint Gas Board and Swinton and Wath Joint Hospitals Board .

He was the holder of a Royal Humane Society’s bronze medal, which was awarded him for saving two Jives in 1881.

He leaves a widow and grown-up sons and daughters.
