Sudden Death of a Wath Sportsman

Mr Frank “Tiger” Stocks, who was once a well-known figure on the local junior football and cricket fields died suddenly at his home, Brewery Terrace. Wath. on December 22nd.

Born and bred in Wath, Mr. Stocks (41) was the third son of Mr. and Mrs, W. Stocks with whom he lived.

He started his working life at Manvers Main and then became a railway worker.

He played football and cricket for Wath Athletic and spent most of his playing days with the Athletic,  but he also played with the old Newhill side and the Bowbroom team, and he played cricket for Mexborough L.N.E.R.

Even this year= at the age of 41. he played football for Wath Burlington Club in the Mex-borough Sunday League.

Almost all the older referees and umpires will remember —“Tiger” and speak highly of his sportsmanship.

He also played for local clubs in panel games and darts leagues and was an active committee man.
