Former Police Sergeant at Wath

With the death on Tuesday after a long illness of Mr. Tom Greenwood at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. Lineham, 58, Chapel Street, Wath, the district lost a very popular figure, Mr. Greenwood having been Sergeant in the West Riding Constabulary at Wath for 11 years, and for eight years at Swinton.

A native of Mytholmroyd, Mr. Greenwood, who was 74, joined the police force at the beginning of this century and was first stationed at Parkgate. On being promoted Sergeant, he was posted to Swinton, where he stayed for eight years until moving to Wath. He was Sergeant at Wath until his retirement in 1925.

On his retirement. Mr. Greenwood returned to his native Mytholmroyd, returning to Wath a year ago. During the last war he served for four years with the Police Reserve,

Mr. Greenwood leaves a widow, one son, Mr. Arthur Greenwood, of Chapel Street, Wath, and two , daughters. The funeral takes place to-day (Friday) at Wath Cemetery at 11 a.m.
