Wath Man Fined

William H. Gething (42), by-product worker, 1 Park Lane, Wath, was summoned at Rotherham West Riding Court on Monday for having stolen timber, value 27s, the property of Manvers Main Colliery Co. Ltd., and the Cambrian Wagon Co. Ltd., and for having assaulted P.c. Oldfield in the execution of his duty.  Defendant, represented by Mr. J. P. Crehan, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

P.c. Oldfield said on June 17th he saw Gething shortly after midnight coming from the direction of Manvers pit with timber over his shoulder.  When defendant saw him, we turned quickly round and threw the wood over a garden wall.  When he cautioned defendant, he used obscene language and threatened to kill him. He then picked up a big piece of concrete and said “If you move one step forward, you’re a dead man.”

P.c. Oldfield said defendant threw the stone which narrowly missed his head
