Cyril Turner’s Good Match.

Cyril Turner, the young Wath and Sheffield United cricketer, had such good match with both bat and ball against Lancashire that one was not surprised to hear well-known player express the opinion that he is most useful player the fringe the team, and worthy of more, frequent calls by the County Committee

In his previous appearances for Yorkshire he has distinguished himself more as bowler than as a batsman, but against the Champions he showed that in addition to taking very creditable share in the attack, he is a batsman of good style, sound defence, and the right temperament.

Yorkshire have lately concentrated upon search for fast bowler, because of the lack of speed in the attack on hard wickets, but it is also worth remembering that a bowler who can send down 30 or 40 overs in an innings, without straining himself, can make the batsman play him all the time, and is also capable of an innings such the one Turner played against Lancashire, can hardly be left out of consideration when the choice of the last man is being made.

One expects that Cyril Turner will not be seen so often with Sheffield United’s Yorkshire Council side in the future, but Sheffield United and their supporters are not likely to begrudge the Wath lad chance which he has richly earned
