Denaby’s Double.
Scrappy Evening At Tickhill Square

Denaby 3, Wath 2

In their second meeting with Wath, at Denaby on. Friday, Denaby again managed to get both points, but on the play a draw would have been a fairer result.

Play was terribly scrappy in the first half with Wath the more dangerous. Throughout play was of the kick-and-rush type. Mis-kicks and fouls were frequent. By both sides chances were missed till a minute before the interval, when Denaby scored. Denaby played a mystery man from the North at outside-left in place of Turner, who had strained a muscle. This man’s name was zealously guarded by the Denaby officials He was responsible for Denaby’s first goal and throughout was a dangerous player. From one of his centres, BREWIN, who had changed with Jenkins at outside right easily scored. Jenkins made a great difference to the Denaby attack when he went to centre forward. Within fifteen minutes after the interval four goals were added; two for Wath and two for Denaby. Leslie Murden missed narrowly with a hard drive but immediately afterwards HARGREAVES easily scored from a pass by Murden. In one of the Denaby attacks JENKINS scored a lucky goal. Brewin centred and the ball glanced off Jenkins’s foot into goal. JENKINS scored Denaby’s third goal from a pass by Ogley, and ERNEST MURDEN added a second for Wath.

Wath never settled down. They are not good at kick-and-rush football, yet they had a fair share of the play. Clegg found the two Murdens troublesome and W. Moore gave Windle plenty to do. Frank Moore was a trier at centre-forward but was handicapped in height. Dennis was the best of Wath’s halves and Dawber saved certain goals on one or two occasions. Saxton sent out some good passes to the wingers. Bentley was the strength of Wath’s defence. Flowers (lid some miskicking but his performance was encouraging. Whittaker had plenty to do and he did it well.

Jenkins and Brewin were the life of the Denaby attack and the midfield winger was a continual source of trouble to Dawber. Kelly. and Rodgers and Taylor were strong in defence. Birch made some daring eaves.

The teams were:

Denabv : Birch; Rodgers. Taylor ; Clegg, Ogley, Wind le ; Brewin, Kelly, Jenkins, this Green, Another.

Wath : Whittaker; Bratley, Flowers; Dawber, Saxton, Dennis; W. Moore, Hargreaves, F. Moore, E. Murden, L. Murden.
