Former Wath Councillor

The death occurred on Saturday of Mr. John Thomas Shaw ( 70 ) of 23, Avenue Road, Wath, a former member of Wath Urban Council.

Mr. Shaw held a seat on the Council for 16 years until 1939, and was chairman in 1933. Mr Shaw had been a member of the old Rotherham Board of Guardians for 20 years, and was a member of Wath Education Sub – committee for several years. He was on the Wath joint Hospital Board and Wath Athletic Club Committee.

Mr Shaw had been a local Methodist preacher in the highly Circuit for 42 years, and last year was presented with a Bible by the British and Following Bible Society for long service.

He has been connected with the Gore Hill Methodist Church since it was opened and helped to dig the foundations of the church. He leaves a widow, three sons and one daughter
