“A born leader and a player whose personal example of the new lock towards elevating the standards of sportsmanship in this quarter,” is the high tribute paid to George Rowley by a follower of junior football in the Brampton district.

Compliments of that kind are worth cherishing for the indicate something more than mere skill; and after all the games the thing. Nevertheless, in addition to being a good sportsman Rowley is a player of high merit. He plays right full back and there are few in local junior football who fill the position better.

He started his football career with Brampton Church and last year assisted Rotherham Road. Then when the forces at Packman Road became mutually divided, he enrolled under the new combination. This season as captain of the team has shown his best form has been freely spoken of as a likely candidate for promotion. In that respect, however, years are somewhat against him, for he is boarding on 26. He stands 5’9” and weighs 11 stones.

After the war Rowley served three years as a sergeant in the Royal Field Artillery.
