Grantham 2 Wath 3

Though doing quite three-fourths of the attacking, Grantham succumbed 2-3 at home to Wath. from whom, incidentally, they have never yet secured a point.

A mistake by Appleton enabled Williams to secure the lead for the visitors, and F. Moore scored a second.

Spavin (penalty) soon reduced the deficit, the ex-Forester failing with a similar concession a minute later; but Gibson placed the sides on an equality before the interval.

The second half was almost a continual series of bombardments by Grantham, who did everything but score. F. Moore seized upon breakaway and registered the winner for Wath.

With anything like normal fortunes the score at Grantham on Saturday would have been reversed, for the balance of play was distinctly in Grantham’s favour and Whittaker, Wath’s keeper, had at least three times as much work to do as Appleton. Whittaker (picture) saved his side from defeat; he met the Grantham attacks with confidence and made splendid clearances.
