Husband Spending His Time in Prison.
A sentence of three months’ imprisonment was passed on James Wm. Catling, a West Melton miner, at Doncaster on Tuesday.
Catling was charged with failing to pay to his wife’s maintenance on a magistrates’ order.
It was stated by the Clerk (Mr. E. W. Pettifer) that an order was made at that court in January, 1928, but the man had only paid 6s. on it and that was because the money was taken from him by the police on a warrant. Since that time, Catlin, had been given sentences of two months’ imprisonment in February, June, September and December, 1928, and in June of this year.
Catling said that he was not earning enough to pay his wife 20s. per week. He had promised to provide her with a home, hut the magistrates would not allow it. He would take his wife back any time she would come.
