Mexborough Free Library Committee has just issued a society catalogue of over 400 additional volumes that have been placed on the shelves.
During the past 12 months, 10,107 books have been bothered by reading from Mexborough Free Library, as against 7000 for the previous year. In addition 5331 books have been loaned from the juvenile section since the opening in November last.
There are about 100 books in the Mexborough Free Library has not been read since they were placed on the shelves. They comprise theological, biographical and scientific work.
The Mexborough and District Trades Council are recommencing the agitation for lighting the road between Mexborough and Manvers Main Colliery.
A further conference on local authorities, respecting the housing scheme for the Barnburgh colliery development, will be held on May 10 at Bolton.
Miss Lottie Speight of West Melton, pupil of Miss Edith Allen of Mexborough, will be the soloist at the Mexborough Congregational Church on Sunday evening next.
The institution and induction of the new Vicar of Kilnhurst, the Rev, F.W. Shepherd, M.A. By the Lord Bishop of Sheffield will take place in Kilnhurst church on Thursday next, May 2 at 11:30 a.m.
At Denaby Main the excellent suggestion has been made that the Relief Distress Committee should form the officials of a Nursing Association to provide one of the Queen Victoria nurses for this “big” village.
Mr J.H.Drew, surveyor and engineer in the Horbury Council, near Wakefield, has been appointed surveyor and engineer to the Wath Council to succeed Mr H.C. Poole, who recently resigned owing to ill-health.
There is a threatened strike of light metalworkers at the works of Messrs Hattersley Brothers Ltd, Queen’s foundry, Swinton. About 100 notices have been handed in, which expire on Saturday week. The men have demanded a 2 ½% increase in wages.

We congratulate Mr H. Dunk, of Mexborough, has been appointed accountant to the Denaby and Cadeby Main Colliery Company Ltd, in succession to Mr T.W.Evison, who resigned that position owing to ill-health. Mr Evison, who has recently undergone an operation in the Sheffield Hospital, is at present recuperating in the Isle of Man.
Sunday, April 27, is Mexborough Council Sunday, and the councillors and officials, with the police, the Mexborough Ambulance Brigade, the Denaby Ambulance Band and the gate, and the Mexborough Trades Association will, at the invitation of the Chairman, Councillor G Wood, J.P., attend morning service at the Wesleyan Church. A start will be made from the Council Chamber at 10.45.
