Midland League.

Chesterfield Reserves, with attack disorganised through the non-appearance of Taylor (S. J.), did extremely well to beat Denaby United, 4—1, before 2,200 at Saltergate. A new player, Jobo, appeared at outside left, and Andrews, although not fully recovered from injury, had to take the inside position.

Denaby were very strong in open play, but their finishing was weak, although Moralee found the net, from L. Green’s centre, in the closing stages. The Chesterfield scorers were Hunt (2) —who played with his usual enterprise and dash—Parle and Machent. Parle and Beedall, on tho rightwing, did much clever work.

Mansfield Excel.

There were 2,500 spectators to see Mexborough Athletic’s attractive engagement with Mansfield Town, and though the visitors secured a comfortable victory by 3—0, there was much clever and interesting play, particularly in the first half.

Mansfield crossed over two up, Murphy and Gray having scored, but Mexborough did not deserve to be a couple of goals in arrears. In the second half Mansfield emphasised their victory with a goal from Roseboom. Mexborough played well in the first half and the forward line were triers, but luck was not with them, and after ten minutes of the second half they faded out. With Mansfield resting on their lead, the game fizzled out into a poor finish, marred by feeling which ended in Ward bringing off a save from a listlessly taken penalty in the last minute.

Mansfield were excellent in all departments, with “stars” in Collins in goal and McLaughlan. Beaumont, Follows, and Wroe did best for Mexborough.

Scarborough’s March.

Scarborough have won all their eight home matches. They had an easy task in their match with Wath Athletic on Saturday, winning 5—l. The superior football of the homo team baffled Wath, whose forwards, lacking sufficient support from their half-backs, were well held by Scarborough’s defence.

In the first half Clayson, Nelson, and Hill scored for the home team. Five minutes after the kick-off in the second half Wath scored, but Hill, who is the former Wednesday player, completed his “hat trick” for Scarborough.

Point Under Difficulties.

Wombwell triumphed over difficulties to get a point against Boston, at Wombwell.

Only one of Wombwell’s forwards was able to take his usual position, and a reserve back was fielded in Turton. Despite this handicap, Wombwell gave a spirited show, making up in dash for what they lacked in organisation. For three parts of the game Wombwell held the lead, and was not until a quarter of hour of the end that Boston could equalise. Brayshaw netted for Wombwell and Osgerby for Boston. The outstanding men were Speight (centre-forward) and Liversidge (back) for Wombwell and Levick (centre half) for Boston.
