COUN. A.DEARDEN
Wath Central Ward Councillor
The death occurred on Wednesday at his home, 50 Cuts Avenue, Wath, of Councillor Arthur Dearden (51) Labour representative for the Central Ward on Wath Urban Council for the past 10 years.
Counselling Dearden was Chairman of the Counselling 1954 – 55 and had the honour been presented to the Queen during her visit to South Yorkshire.
Dearden was a ripper at Barnburgh Main Colliery, where he had worked for over 20 years.
He had been a member of the N.U.M. branch committee for 14 years, and a member of the Consultative Committee for five years. He previously worked at Cortonwood and Manvers Main where he started work at 14. In his second year as a councillor he was appointed Chairman of the Lighting Committee, and continued as Chairman of the Highways and Lighting Committee.
He has been chairman of Wath Road Safety Committee for five years, and Council representative to the West Riding Accident Prevention Society, and has been Ward representative to Wath Aged people’s Welfare Committee since its inception six years ago.
Married with four children, Coun. Dearden was Finance Chairman of the old Wath, Bolton and Thurnscoe Gas Board.
Coun. Dearden was re-elected to the Council in 1955 and had one more year of his three-year term to sir.
The funeral takes place at Wathcemetery to-morrow (Saturday), at 3.30 p.m., following a service in Wath parish Church at 3 p.m.
