Old Wathonians Plan for New Club House

Enquiries are being with regard to obtaining a plot of land in Wath to build a new club house it was revealed at last Wednesday’s annual general meeting of the Old Wathonians Rugby Union Club.

The project Is still in the formative stage, but the secretary. Mr. B. Lidster hopes to be In a position to announce full details In the near future. He told members that it was proposed to stage a car treasure hunt on July 1st In aid of the building fund. This will commence at 7.30 p.m. from the Milton Hall. Elsecar, and any members interested In the event are asked to contact Mr. Philip Ardron. 49. Fitrwilliam Street, Elsecar.

Treasurer. Mr. M. AL Taylor spoke of his concern at the delay in the payment of playing subscriptions and appealed to members to assist by forwarding outstanding subscriptions.

Increased List

It was also announced that the second team’s fixture programme had been increased to 14 games. Training sessions will commence at the Wath Grammar School ground at the end of August. The Secretary expressed the hope that more members would attend the early practices to ensure match fitness in time for the Rotherham “Sevens” tournament which opens the season in September. The opening fixture will be on September 12th,

The Barnsley “Sevens” trophy will occupy a place of honour at Wath Grammar School. The club were recently, successful in this tournament. overcoming stern opposition from all parts of South Yorkshire and clubs as far north at Leeds.
