May Queen

This year’s May Queen at Park Road Infant School was Margaret Nellar (7) only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Nellar, the Post Office, Wath.

The queen was crowned in the school hall, which was decorated with spring leaves and flowers, last Thursday and Friday, by the retiring Queen, Betty Cunningham. Margaret wore a long gown of white satin beaute. Her train, held by four trainbearers, was of satin, embroidered with apple blossom.

Betty, who crowned the Queen with pink and white lilies of the valley, wore a long dress of white lace.

The attendants were Betty Mellor (crown bearer). Shirley Hallett (sceptre bearer), Joan Walton. Lenny Frost, Barbara Butcher, and Freda Hankins who all wore short white dresses. Before the Queen and her retinue walked four flower strewers and a guard of honour
