Sudden Death – G. R. Gardner

Mr. George Roland Gardner (61), of the Grammar School House, Wath, collapsed and died suddenly at his home on Tuesday.

Mr. Gardiner was well respected in the district, especially by those connected with Wath Corps of the Salvation Army, of which he had been a member for 50 years.  He will be greatly missed at the Grammar School where he had been caretaker since the School was opened 21 years ago.  He was a retired bandsman of Wath Salvation Army, and was a former secretary and Sergeant-Major of the corps.

He had been a member of the Oddfellows for about 40 years, and at one time was sick visitor for the Society.  Mr Gardner was an air raid warden.

The funeral takes place to-morrow (Saturday) at Wath Cemetery.  The cortege will leave the School House at 1.45 p.m., with the Salvation Army Band in attendance.  Mr. Gardner leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter who is a member of an A.T.S. band.
