Ten Times Among Prize Awards

Saturday night at Mexborough Music Festival was Thurnscoe’s night. Individually and collectively the village dominated two centres; the finale In the packed Mexborough Grammar School Hall, and the early evening session in Mexborough Congregational Church for quartets and octets.

Their singers were six times among the prizewinners and their choirs four times. Back to Thurnscoe went three trophies and the unqualified praise of all the three adjudicators for the musical classes.

Something Happened

Said Miss Helen Henschel, daughter of the renowned Sir George Henschel, at the Saturday night finale:—

“I do not know what it is about Thurnscoe, but there is some sort of magic in the air at Thurnscoe . . . . ever since about three years ago I was completely bowled over by Thurnscoe Harmonics when I was judging at Nottingham. When people say Thurnscoe to me I feel that something is going to hap pen. Well it did!”

The Festival attracted more than 2,000 entries who competed over the two days, Friday and Saturday
