Wath 1. Mansfield 1

A high wind spoiled play at Wath yesterday. Mansfield rarely showed the form that has made them League leaders, and a little more dash in the forwards would have given Wath the victory.

Mansfield got an early lead. After a Wath attack in which the forwards played pretty football Mansfield got away, Grice passed to McLauchlan, who easily beat Whittaker with a rising shot.

Seven minutes afterwards a fault in the Mansfield defence let Murden through. F. Moore made good use of his pass and SKEELS finished the movement by driving past Staples from three yards out. From then onwards it was a same of missed chances and play never reached a high level. Wath were aggressive but finished weakly and Mansfield were fond of sending the ball out of play. Staniforth, the Mansfield right-inside, made a capital half-back and he was the only man who could hold Skeels.

Murden was not at his best and Frank Moore was repeatedly out of place through helping Dawber. Bedford did good work at centre half and Bratlev was a sound defender. Whittaker had some hot shots to save from Morris and McLauchlan.

In the Mansfield forwards, McLauchlan and Kirk were quick and clever, but the inside men could not make the most of their openings. Chambers was one of the hardest workers on the field. Staples in goal showed clever anticipation.
