Another Swashbuckling Innings
Makes the Crowd Forget The Rain

Wath home game with Brampton was drawn, and consequently there was little interest in the second half of the game. At the first downpour Wath had scored 177 for 5 wickets in five minutes under two hours.

There was a delay of 30 minutes, after which Wath increased their total to 221 without further loss. Brampton, left with nearly 2 hours to bat had scored 86 for two in 75 minutes when another shower caused the match to be abandoned.

Nevertheless there was some interesting cricket. Once again Auty found inspiration in the Wath wicket and follow up his big scoring of South Kirby with another fine innings of 150 not out. This entertaining innings helped the crowd forget the cold wind.

Green opened the innings with Auty and a brisk rate of scoring was kept up at the expense of Leyland and Lidster until 51 appeared on the bord. At this point Green was stumped by Hickling. Senior and Roberts had short rains but by this time Auty had dug himself in, and was beginning to lay on the bowling. Hefty hits past cover, swashbuckling drives off loose balls and daintily executed shots between fine and square leg brought Auty most of his runs.

Auty completed his century out of 149 in about 100 minutes.
